Refinery Optimization: Fluid Catalytic Cracking
A large refinery in The Middle East often experienced changes in product requirements, feedstock availability and also observed dynamic behavior of their FCC unit. However, their FCC unit was not designed for these dynamic conditions. Hence, there was always a gap between current and optimal performance of the FCC unit, leaving a lot of benefits on the table.
Visionaize’s Real-Time Optimization (RTO) solution consisted of a plant predictive model and advanced AI algorithms. The Visionaize’s experts developed Plant Predictive Model using AI and domain expertise. We developed the AI Optimizer with a focus on profit maximization though we provided flexibility for the client to maximize propylene production, gasoline production or profit. After few iterations between AI algorithms and Plant Predictive Models, the RTO provided the optimum manipulated variables with new set points. These new set points are being implemented in the DCS on regular basis to realize the profit. For this client, our RTO works as an advisor since it is an open loop RTO.
